For over 25 years, I have been dedicated to making homeownership a reality, most recently helping more than 185 clients find their dream homes in the beautiful Lowcountry. As an Ohio native, I understand the intricacies of buying and selling homes across state lines, having navigated the market from Ohio to Arizona and now to South Carolina.
Building on a lifelong passion for education, I spent a decade teaching high school Spanish in Ohio, Arizona, and South Carolina. For me, teaching was not just about language; it was about immersing students in a rich culture. I had the joy of taking students to Spain and Costa Rica several times, where we focused on community service and cultural exchange by living with local families. This experience honed my ability to communicate complex ideas clearly, guide others through important decisions, and maintain patience and adaptability, skills that now serve my real estate clients well.
On a personal note, I humbly admit that my own home-buying experiences have been influenced by my love for my dogs. Our move from Ohio to Arizona was inspired by the desire for a better quality of life, ensuring that our senior dogs could enjoy water therapy in our backyard with their own pool. Later, when relocating to Bluffton to be closer to family, I kept our two mini Australian Shepherds in mind, searching for properties where they could run and play freely.
I hold both undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Cincinnati, graduating Summa Cum Laude. I received the "Education Student of the Year" and "Outstanding Achievement in Spanish" awards from UC. I strive for excellence in every endeavor, driven by my father’s belief that "your reputation is everything." This principle guides me in my commitment to achieving the best for my clients.

Jenny helps buyers make sense of the Island’s condo and community fee structures, from monthly or quarterly regime fees to HOA assessments, insurance considerations, transfer fees, and what is (or isn’t) included in each sale. She knows the right questions to ask and helps her clients understand the true cost of ownership before they make a decision, so they can confidently compare one property and community to another. For sellers, Jenny brings that same depth of market knowledge to strategically position and market their property, with thoughtful pricing, strong presentation, consistent communication, and skilled negotiation from listing through closing.
Originally from Massachusetts, Jenny has called the Lowcountry home for more than 10 years and brings years of real estate experience and extensive local market knowledge to every client relationship. Spending the front half of her career as the personal assistant to some of the region’s top-producing professionals, she developed a strong understanding of Hilton Head Island and the surrounding Lowcountry — and the nuances that can make one property a much better fit than another.

Simply could not have asked for a better realtor.
Jenny Filkens is simply outstanding. We could not have asked for a better realtor. Having bought and sold homes five times in our lives, our experiences with other realtors pale in comparison to Jenny. We lived in Maryland, were purchasing a home in the Hilton Head area, and we selected Jenny as our buyers agent. Despite our being several states away, Jenny represented us at the home inspection, kept us informed on everything identified and then made additional trips to the home with service contractors afterward on our behalf. She worked tirelessly to resolve issues that came up during the inspection and relentlessly tracked down the builder’s representative to get clear answers on warranty implications. Nothing was left unaddressed. Jenny is a consummate professional, honest, and has a genuinely positive personality. She meets obstacles head-on and stays with them until they are resolved. Her expert communication skills kept us informed on all developments and kept us apprised of key milestones and deadlines during the buying process. Her dogged determination made all the difference and demonstrated she will always go the extra mile for her clients. Without her individual efforts, our home purchase either would not have happened or would have been delayed significantly.
