Chris was always there for me, driving all the way to Deep River to collect me (I drove for 63 years, renounced it at age 80). He told me, before the surgeon did, that I must rest after Thursday’s surgery. This meant the house would not go live for two more days — until Sunday. It was both a humane gesture for me and a genius gesture by Chris to keep the crowd in a state of anticipation. He took in 8? 10? bids after Sunday’s open house. Me, I disappeared on my bike down to the River Landing (think old ferry boats from NYC and, under cover of darkness, Black slaves on the Underground Railroad stepping off small boats to be hidden in a riverfront barn before they were hustled to Canada). I chose the 2nd highest bid due to his offering cash (highest bid, at $10,000 more , came with a conventional loan). All ends well. I could not like the buyer more if I tried. My new life in New London has begun well — three neighbors have knocked on the door to welcome me. As I sensed about the vibe in NL, they are artistic — much native talent and energy, not so much $$$$$. Best wishes to everyone at Raveis, especially Chris. And! Hey, Bill!
