I am not someone that would normally sit down and write a detailed review but the Gillens are so deserving of praise. My family had a bad week of home searching in the Tampa area. I decided we needed a break from the stress and decided to go to the beach in Sarasota and somehow ended up in Armand Circle. We then walked by Coldwell Banker and my says “there is a guy sitting inside, let’s go talk to him”. I was apprehensive but little did I know at the time that this was one of the best suggestions my wife had ever made. Absolute truth, we walked in and immediately felt like we had a friend in Brian Gillen. It didn’t matter that we didn’t have an appointment, it didn’t matter that we had not even agreed to use him as an agent yet. He sat us down and listened to us, that’s right LISTENED. He knew exactly what questions to ask and narrowed our search to 2 homes. The following day he found us our dream home. He even brought us around the community to show us what it was all about. We didn’t understand why he was being so nice and going above and beyond. We know now that’s just who Brian is. A genuine nice guy. We offered asking price on our dream home but after a long day of ups and downs we did NOT get the house. We had to return to Boston without a happy ending. We continued to communicate with Brian while we were back in Boston. We were once again not feeling confident that we would find the right home for us. Brian as always kept it positive, showing us other homes and talking to us as friends. Saturday morning 9:30am my phone rings and I see Brian’s name. I honestly debated about picking it up because I was so polluted with home searching. I picked up the phone only because of my respect for Brian. He says “ Do you still want the house because the other buyer’s deal fell through”. Needless to say we jump on our second chance for our dream home and WE GOT IT! We purchased on our very first trip to the Sarasota area—while we were only here on a first time fact finding mission with the hopes of purchasing in the future. We felt this was a huge ask of the Gillen’s to show us homes AND introduce us to a brand new area, but they did so with pure honesty, zero issue with the time we asked of them, and with the most friendly and supportive demeanor we could imagine. In 2 full days of driving around and seeing available condos, we got to know this selfless and kind couple! When we saw “the one”, they leveled with us, spent considerable time explaining Florida RE to us, and with utmost transparency, assured us that we were making a sound decision. The deal was done in one day thanks to their expertise. To this day, we consider the purchase of our Florida home the best decision we have ever made, especially with the timing that was unbeknownst to all of us. We are blessed and grateful to now, 3 years later, call the Gillen’s our true friends. On a side note, when my husband first started looking at condos online, one of Eileen and Brian’s listings was of interest. He hesitated to contact them for fear of being bombarded with pressure and emails and told them so. They were beyond respectful of his wishes. On top of that, they left the ball in his court, offering up their services whenever it was convenient for us. The personal connection started then and simply grew from there. They are not “hard sell” realtors, but realtors who care. They will tell you the reality of a situation while giving you, as a buyer, the crucial time and space needed to make such an important decision as to purchase a home. Brian and Eileen were always friendly and professional. They hosted many open houses and put in effort into selling my condo unit. The reason for the three-star rating is that I don't feel that I received their best effort/work product (compared to the work product I saw for other properties they listed). I feel the photos of our property were inferior compared to photos of other properties (the colors were muted; the angles and staging were not optimal). Also, I had to request for the photos to be ordered in such a way as to show our beautiful view in the fist one or two photos. Eileen resisted, indicating MLS rules; however, the order that I requested was exactly the same as the order they used for other listed properties. In addition, the property description lacked the flare and enthusiasm that I saw in other property descriptions prepared by Eileen. In general, perhaps the time that I worked with Brian and Eileen was a particularly busy time for them, such that we did not receive their highest quality of work product.
