A decade...or more. That's how long we had been contemplating a purchase of a home in Carmel-by-the-Sea. When the time came to get serious, we asked our realtor in Sonoma for a referral, and it was her due diligence that brought us to Amber Russell at Over The Moon Realty. As we have been buyers and sellers of real estate since 1990, our partial list of must haves in an agent are simple, but not easy: • Superior Communication Skills: Particularly when buying a home that is away from your main residence, there is little time or patience for communication incompetence. • High Degree of Urgency: Sellers and their agents are busy, buyers and their agents are busy and often that means that things take too long to address. From simple questions to more elaborate investigation, we place a high premium on folks who operate at the same high level of urgency we do. • Knowledge of the Market: Carmel has its charms. It also has its quirks. We needed an agent who could highlight the former and navigate through the latter. • Knowledge of the Transaction: Our job is not to know the finest nuances of a real estate deal. That's the job of the agent - from the offer to final walk through. • Calm in the Face of Chaos: There always seems to be a bump in the road. Our agent needs to be the one with the level head. I'll be irrational for both of us. After a case of second home cold feet (yes, it's a commitment) we closed this week - nearly two years after our 'time to get serious' phase began - on a great home, at a great price, in a great location. Thanks Amber.
