A proud River Rat, she knows these waterways personally the Hiwassee, the Tennessee River, the Ocoee — having fished, rafted, and lived alongside them her entire life.
She has watched Chattanooga transform into one of the most celebrated cities in America from Chickamauga Lake and Harrison Bay State Park to the energy of downtown, the Tennessee Riverwalk, and Lookout Mountain. Chattanooga is now North America’s first designated National Park City, recognized for its extraordinary integration of nature and urban life, and it’s also the new home of IBMA World of Bluegrass the most important week in bluegrass music. As a lifelong bluegrass fan herself, Melissa feels that designation in her bones.
