Everything went smoothly until closing. The Settlement folks were close to the coast in SC as I was driving down and staying with my daughter in Wilmington, NC. I got to the settlement location and the receptionist said that I didn't have an appointment, but she'd see if she could find help. She then disappeared and wasn't seen again. I was handed off to a new person who wasn't sure of the procedures. Thank goodness Mr. Matthews decided to meet me there (as we never had met face-to-face). He told the young lady that I could sign an agreement for their lawyer to sign for me when she got back to the office. I have a pretty short fuse for outright lies and that's what we were handed. I was told that the lawyer had a doctor's appointment and couldn't make the meeting. However, the lawyer eventually showed up and told a different story. She said she called the office to see if she had anything scheduled and was told there was nothing on the books. So....WHY did she bother to come in? The office (not connected to you, but evidently you have an agreement to cover for one another) wanted me to return on another day. I live an 8 hour drive from their location. I would suggest you don't trust those people any more. I've already filed the paperwork and don't want to dig it out to get the information, but Mr. Matthews would know. Those people were lazy and they lied. I would have cancelled the entire transaction and kept the land just to NOT have to deal with those people again. Thanks to Mr. Matthews, they wised up and called in the lawyer. I would recommend Mr. Matthews, but would caution folks to use your regular group for the closing.
