About Doug

Doug Sager stands out in the crowd, not only because he is 6’7” and hard to miss, but because he has an unparalleled work ethic and is driven by exceeding the expectations of his clients. Doug exudes superior service, attention to detail and high standards. Operating with integrity and confidentiality, your goals will become his goals. Growing up in the Sonoma Wine Country, Doug is a Bay Area native who began his career during a downward cycle; that taught him to work comfortably in the most challenging of situations. He has built that career to become one of the top producers at his full-service east bay brokerage, The Grubb Company. Doug’s clients can attest to his focus on meeting their needs and their needs alone and he has countless testimonials to that effect. For sellers Doug has a proven system that leads to successful results, often creating multiple offer situations and his listings typically sell for an average of 112% of list price. His system combines proven techniques and uses the latest technology to make sure every possible buyer will be attracted to the home. For buyers, Doug is a skilled negotiator who is there every step of the way, from the moment buyers fall in love to the crafting and presenting of the offer, to the close of escrow and beyond. Doug is proud to be a former member of the historic and beautiful Sequoyah CC in the Oakland Hills. A former touring golf professional and All-American at UC Davis, goals and dreams have always been an important part of his life. Being part of others goals and dreams now fuels the fire inside him to succeed in real estate, his true calling. Giving back is equally important to Doug. He served as the 2016 President of Oakland | Berkeley Association of Realtors and has volunteered his valuable time to promote home ownership as a Director at both the state (CAR) and national (NAR) levels. He is a past President of his Neighborhood Association in the Sequoyah Hills and has served on the Board of The First Tee of the East Bay, an organization that offers under-privileged local youth the opportunity to learn the great game of golf while building character and life skills to help them succeed. Doug’s passions include radio journalism. After graduating from UC Davis, Doug worked as a local news reporter for KQED News Radio and NPR. He also hosted a radio show on KDVS called “Family” – an LGBT-focused talk show where role models were interviewed on the air about their struggles and triumphs set to the musical background of Doug’s favorite house and electronic music. Doug’s other passions include world travel, great food and wine and building his life with his husband Abe.

A remarkable, responsive agent with great negotiating skills!

My experience buying a home with Doug's guidance was exceptional. He takes the time to truly get to know what a client is seeking in a house and helps to make the process proceed flawlessly. He is not only your agent, he also becomes your housing bff, offering guidance and suggestions even after the house closes. I trusted Doug to have my best interests at heart; not only is he a super agent, he is also incredibly kind and thoughtful. I can't say enough good things about Doug. Save yourself time and trouble by directly working with Doug and don't waste your time looking for anyone else.

Doug Sager and Matt Detert are Excellent Real Estate Agents

Doug and Matt were amazing to work with from start to finish and even after closing! They really took the time to understand what we were looking for and only sent us homes that fit our needs perfectly. They were always flexible with our schedules and quick to answer any questions, even going the extra mile to get information from the seller’s agent when needed. When our lender caused unexpected delays, Doug and Matt recommended a great local broker who helped get things back on track. They also found a solution with the seller so we could close without any penalties. Even after we moved in, they’ve continued to be helpful—answering questions and sharing trusted contractor recommendations. We couldn’t have asked for better agents and would recommend Doug and Matt to anyone looking to buy a home!

I would keep going back if I could!

I had the pleasure of working with Doug and his team through 2 purchases and 2 sales; they could not have been smoother. Doug really takes care of his clients, communicates well and always has your best now and in the future in mind. While I’m out of the area for now, I know Doug has my back. Thank you for everything!!

Doug Sager is a star, he knew just what had to...

Doug Sager is a star, he knew just what had to be done to get top dollar for our family home. He was great to work with and was there to guide us through the whole process of selling a home in this location in this market. I would highly recommend him to all my friends and family looking to sell or buy a home.
