When I decided to sell my house I compared three different realtors. The first seemed too lacking in experience so I focused on Chris Murray of Remax and Vogler Feigen. Chris Murray was well prepared and had answers to all my questions. I made a comment something like, “It’s easier to come down from a high price than it is to come up from a low price.” Chris politely tried to explain that this idea was wrong but unfortunately some people (like me) have to learn the hard way. I asked Chris about his evaluation of the market value of my of my home and his estimate turned out to be within $3,000 of the eventual selling price. I was non-committal and told Chris that I wanted to hear from some more realtors. I met Sonya Feigen and Aprile Meza shortly afterwards. Both are highly experienced agents. Sonya confidently stated that my house was worth $20,000 more than what Chris Murray told me it was worth. Aprile Meza agreed with Sonya. I did mention what Chris had said but they replied that Chris just wanted to sell the house quickly and if I was willing to wait a little longer I could make a lot more money. Well, I swallowed their pitch and for almost four months there were no offers to buy. I had to listen to to one lame excuse after another about why it was necessary to lower the asking price. After six months I ended up getting a lousy deal. I make no claim for the readers’ sympathy. I was warned and I made a bad choice. Chris Murray held no grudge against me for choosing another realtor.
