About four years ago I went to my mailbox and found a postcard from a real estate agent saying she loved my older home. It had her name and number. It was Mary. When I decided to sell, I knew my home would be a challenge, so I gave her a call. She didn’t shrink from the peeling paint and was excited to see the scary, 150-year-old basement. I had lived in my house more than 40 years and Mary empathized with the range of emotions I was experiencing. That was the main reason I picked her to represent me. We went through the house and she gave me specific “assignments” to get ready. She did not ask me to make unnecessary, expensive upgrades. I cleaned up, did some interior painting, moved some furniture around. She brought in an excellent photographer.
