Purchasing a home in a 55+ community

We decided to purchased a home in a 55+ community as part of our downsizing strategy. Tom Beck was a realtor specializing in 55+ communities and actually live in the community we wanted to visit. Tom had tremendous insight into The Villages in San Jose. Tom listened to our downsizing goals including out initial preferences in what we wanted to have in a new home. Tom was very skilled at listening carefully. As we toured a number of homes and styles, he took note of what we liked and disliked. He also asked questions when our tour comments diverged from our stated downsizing goals. We initially looked at homes that we not all that smaller than our existing family home. He gently told us that often couples use a filter of the familiar and past family experiences when checking out potential properties. Tom had us see many properties to help us see the breadth of styles to narrow down what was really important to us. We settled on a home profile about half the size of our existing home in a newer village and desired a move-in ready unit rather than a cheaper fixer upper to avoid a re-model. We found a unit we really liked but waited a few days before deciding to put in an offer. Move-in ready homes move quicker and they tend go for a higher price. We moved too slow and we missed out. Lesson learned I started all the paperwork with several of Tom’s recommended financial lender to get bridge financing ready for the next time. Not long after, Tom was able to find us another completely remodeled home in the same village as the last one that was being sold by a trust. We toured the unit and loved it. This time we were ready and Tom prepared an offer at asking price based Tom’s experience with estate sales. We were first offer and the trust accepted it before any other offer. We love our new home in our new community. We highly recommend Tom for his market understanding of 55+ communities especially at The Villages. We highly recommend Tom Beck.
