Aloha mai i’au. One year ago, I embarked on the waters of Hawaiian Real Estate in my own canoe for the first time in 31 years as founder & Principal Broker of Hawaiian Voyage Realty.
Born in LA into a Pan Am airline family, we moved often & traveled extensively; both my younger brother Darrell & I studied engineering at Stanford University. He remains an aeronautical engineer and I started out as a Petroleum Engineer; my freshman year, I spent a quarter backpacking on Hawai’i Island as part of a Hawaiian Natural History field studies program through UC Santa Cruz which kindled my love for Hawai’i, her history, people & culture.
After a brief career as a petroleum engineer, I arrived in Hilo in 1990 with a bicycle, backpack & tent, and decided to try real estate when a new friend said they thought I would make a good agent. It turns out they were right, and after ten years as a Broker in Hilo, I relocated to Maui in 2000 as the Broker-In-Charge at a local agency. Over the past twenty-one years, I have been Broker-In-Charge of two other firms and have trained numerous new licensees to be successful, responsible real estate professionals while providing my Buyer & Seller clients the best real estate services and advice possible.
In September of 2021, I decided to start a company that focuses on providing expert real estate services with an emphasis on understanding the importance of the host culture, sense of place and history of this amazing archipelago we are honored to call home. I studied hula under the tutelage of Nalani & Pua Kanakaole of Halau o Kekuhi in Hilo and currently study with Uluwehi Guerrero and Halau Hula Kauluokala here on Maui.
