We bought our house in March from Zelaya Homes, a family run business. We were immediately drawn to the home for the level of detail, craftsmanship, and design. Rachel, the listing agent, wasn’t present the day we saw the home, but her father was there representing them. We were greeted so warmly that we immediately felt at home. He raved about the work of his son-in-law, Jay, and stressed their commitment to quality. They are so proud of the work they do that they use their name on the business LLC. Rachel was very responsive via our realtor and we felt very comfortable making an offer on the home. The home inspector found several small issues but nothing big, and even said he felt good about the quality of the work that he saw. When negotiating through the home inspection contingency, Jay was very amenable to making the fixes prior to settlement. We were even more thrilled with our purchase once we met Jay at settlement. He was very excited for us and was very proud of the work he had done, even asking us what our favorite part of the house was. It was clear that he was extremely passionate about his work and was happy to see the house go to people who shared his love for it. After settlement, we asked Jay to come to the house and price out a few additional things for us--he walked us through the entire house, explaining the decisions they made as contractors; changing a door here, creating a window there, painting only one side of the doors to create a sense of openness. We haven’t bought in DC before, but this felt like a very uncommon experience and was further testament to Jay’s passion for his work. We 100% recommend Zelaya Homes and would love the opportunity to purchase from them again down the line. Thank you Jay and Rachel for making the home buying experience so pleasant and rewarding!
