Before making the move to real estate in 2015, Michael Benson worked as a sales manager with U.S. Bank Home Mortgage for nearly a decade. Due to this previous experience, he is well-versed in all aspects of financing a home - including appraisals, underwriting, processing and closing. Currently, Michael works in the Portland Northeast and the Vancouver office of John L. Scott, as he is licensed in both Washington and Oregon.
Working in real estate is a perfect match for Michael due to the social and collaborative nature of the job. He loves working with a variety of people, running a business with exceptional customer care and assisting clients in securing the home of their dreams. Communication is key to Michael - he is sure to listen carefully to clients' wants and needs and uses these to map out a plan of action. Proactive and timely updates are also important, along with quickly addressing any issues that may arise.
To effectively market homes and stay competitive in the industry, Michael likes to stay visible within his sphere and social network as much as possible. Understanding hyperlocal markets is also key to Michael. He often spends time touring homes, even when he's not with active clients to stay sharp on the market pulse. Michael has a soft spot in his heart for old American Craftsman style homes and bungalows, but also has grown to appreciate new construction since becoming a real estate agent.
A few years ago, Michael's wife talked him and his young daughter into moving out of the city and onto a small farm in La Center with about five acres. In the past several years, they have accumulated a pony named Tony, two goats, ten chickens, a dogs and three cats! When Michael isn't spending time on his farm, you'll often find him and his family playing tennis, hiking, fishing, kayaking, swimming or scuba diving. Whenever they're able to, they also enjoy going on tropical vacations.
