Laurie's a native of Virginia Beach. She witnessed a small beach and agricultural town transition into a thriving tourist and military community without losing its small town charm. Laurie and her sister, Cathy Kahn work together as a real estate team. They have a combination of 32 years experience in real estate and 26 years experience in banking (Laurie, a branch manager/loan officer and Cathy, a consumer lender/marketing office and training director). Laurie and her husband Robert have been together for 35 years and married for 26. They have two daughters, Madeline and Meredith and student athletes on the field hockey team at Appalachian State University. Madeline graduated with a BS and MA in special education and teaches in FL and Meredith is a junior.
Giving back to the community is important to Laurie. She loves volunteering at "Connect with a Wish", a local charity that supports local foster children in Virginia Beach and helping to coordinate the annual #DoGood Community Day, honoring Paige Neubauer’s legacy (#BeLikePaige) by spreading kindness in the community. She has also had the please to serve on Kellam High School's Planning Council and two Homeowner Association Boards.
