Working with Kathy Shaw on our recent home purchase in the greater Chapel Hill/Carrboro area was a real pleasure. We began our search as out of town buyers and relied heavily on Kathy to explore several options on our behalf. She not only arranged private viewings of each of the properties we had targeted after identifying them through the various listing services, but also prepared short videos for our use. She then typically contacted the sellers’ agent to gather background information on the sellers and the properties in question. When we were subsequently able to make a home buying trip to the area in person, Kathy pre-arranged appointments for us to see several properties, and then worked late into the evening and on a holiday (!) to help us submit what was eventually a successful offer on a home that was in heavy demand. Throughout this process, Kathy proved herself to be resourceful, savvy, and creative – someone we came to trust implicitly. She used her extensive professional connections to put us in touch with mortgage brokers, lawyers, home inspectors, surveyors, structural engineers, and building contractors. On top of all of that, she was warm, genuine, and supportive – clearly someone who was looking out for our best interests. I’d recommend her to prospective home buyers and sellers in a heartbeat.
Kathy is by far the best realtor we have ever worked with over the years. She worked with us for over a year as we prepared to find a house in Carrboro/Chapel Hill from out of state: first listening to our priorities, providing lots of suggestions (detailed maps and ideas) for a reconnaissance trip last summer, then full-time assistance as we actively sought houses this spring (again, from out of state) - she visited homes for us, took videos (very helpful), noted highlights and possible challenges of different homes (such as great light or musty smell), and called with feedback. But she went further - once we found our dream home in our dream neighborhood (and finally met her in person), she rallied various structural engineers, crawlspace pros and others to check out some issues (it is an older home), showed up at the home to meet them, helped us prepare a strong offer and then negotiate due diligence with the sellers, and more. Even now that we own the home she has offered to help us with contractors, etc, until we can be in the area full-time. Kathy is smart, kind, a great listener, knows the ins and outs of the market, has great connections, and is clearly a deeply respected realtor in the area.
