Originally from Seattle and raised in a humble immigrant household, Jaymes graduated from Western Washington University with degrees in journalism and English. He interned at KCPQ-TV, the Tri-City Herald, The News Tribune, and the San Diego Union-Tribune. He lived in Newport Beach, CA, before moving to Honolulu in 1997.
Jaymes is married to Becky Ogata, and together they have three children.
