We moved to Orlando for a job a Lockheed Martin and were looking forward to a great big house on the water. Six months in a hotel looking and looking for a place within budget that was between the kids' school downtown and my work. Six months. The perfect place came on the market below value and a bidding war quickly rose the price beyond our budget. The deal fell through and before the house came back on the market Gary wrote the owners a letter. It basically explained that we loved the house and wanted to raise our family in it. We could offer the asking price but did not have the ability to go up at all. One offer, no counter, period.
