The owner of forrentbyowner.com, Dave Watts, rescinded a home rental offer to me after his broker found out that I was transgender. I had been in contact with Dave and his company, forrentbyowner.com about a property in Aurora for three weeks. During that time I was lied to repeatedly by Eddie Ellington, his broker, and falsely guaranteed the property. Ms. Ellington also lied to me about her experience as a teacher to ingratiate herself to me. During this time I was encouraged to turn down other properties in favor of theirs. Ms. Ellington, despite being informed, did not realize I was transgender until we met in person. Three days later I was called and and informed that the requested rent had been raised substantially, then the next day I was informed, in a very unfriendly manner, that the owner of the property had suddenly decided to sell the property. I was informed of this after we had scheduled movers and turned down two other properties because of false promises made by Ms. Ellington. Dave pretended to be concerned and invited me for a meeting today, and ambushed me by bringing along Ms. Ellington without my consent. During the meeting, it was made very clear to me that what I was saying was hearsay in their opinion and the law allowed them to pull out at the last second, and the fact they had lied to me repeatedly was immaterial. To add insult to injury, they admitted to me that the house was never actually for rent in the first place, and Eddie mistakenly offered it to me. Their mistake cost me dearly and they did not show one once of compassion. Mr. Watts even tried to blame me for costing him money in the whole process. How is not clear. I had originally only wanted an apology, I am a special education teacher, and I rescheduled meetings to meet with Mr. Watts on his time frame. Mr. Watts clearly wanted to meet in person so there would be no paper trail. I want to make sure that this doesn't happen to anyone else.
Holy Smokes! I moved out on Sunday, Eddie found renters that wanted to move in Friday. Brought her team in to overhaul everything that needed repair prior to the new tenants move in day. Collected required funds, paperwork done, all in time. Tenants were then managed to have all utilities transferred in a matter of days. You can't pull this off without that kind of experience. Thanks for this amazing turnaround Eddie!
