In the past year, my siblings and I had the good fortune to connect with Bill and Carol Burchfield to help us sell our parents’ house in Murrells Inlet. The house needed a number of improvements, which we knew would be challenging, since none of us live in South Carolina and would need to handle the work from afar. The Burchfields were recommended by the neighbor across the street and selecting them to represent us on the house sale was easily the best decision we could have made! During the process of preparing to sell the house, Carol and Bill were always available, with information, ideas, connections and support. They helped us understand the market in the Myrtle Beach area and how our parents’ house related to other sales in the community and the neighborhood. They helped us secure the services of a handyman, who did an amazing job of renovating the house on a tight budget; and provided a range of suggestions for improvements that were realistic, sensible and do-able. They connected us with an attorney who helped us work through legal issues related to the estate and also handled the closing. As often happens in home sales, there were a number of complications, ranging from a just-replaced sliding glass door being shattered during a storm, to unexplained low-temperature settings on the thermostat, to a lost garage door opener. In all cases, Carol and Bill handled the issues promptly, professionally and cheerfully, communicating all the situations, and supporting our decision-making no matter whether it was a big, messy issue or a quick decision.
