In January 2005, I embarked on a journey in the realm of real estate, equipped with a marketing degree and two decades of sales experience. A significant milestone arrived in 2008 when I secured my broker license. This accomplishment set the stage for an even greater stride in January 2012, as I assumed ownership of RE/MAX Independence Realty, cementing my role as both broker and owner. My engagement in the industry is underscored by my affiliations and contributions: - A proud member of the Northeast Iowa Regional Board of Realtors, offering valuable insights and perspectives. - A former Director of the Northeast Iowa Regional Board of Realtors, where I contributed to shaping the course of our profession. - An active participant in the Iowa Association of Realtors, fostering connections and keeping abreast of industry trends. - A dedicated member of the National Association of Realtors, standing alongside fellow professionals on a national scale. - An engaged presence within the Independence Area Chamber of Commerce, collaborating to enhance our local business landscape. Beyond my professional pursuits, I am deeply rooted in Independence, a community I've called home throughout my life. My personal interests include golf, snowmobiling, and dirt track racing—a passion that has not only brought me joy but has also yielded two national championships. For over three decades, I've masterfully led a championship team in this exhilarating field. My family and I strongly believe in giving back, actively supporting the Independence Community School District. Jim Hughes was born and raised in Independence and has practiced real estate since 1978 including ownership and management of numerous properties. He specializes in all types of residential and commercial property sales throughout Buchanan County. He served three terms on the Iowa Real Estate Commission. Jim has always been an active member of the community and is currently a participating Realtor of the New Resident Housing Incentive Program.

I grew up on a small family farm outside of Arlington which instilled in me hard work and Iowa values. I attended Upper Iowa University where I received my degree in business and education. I have taught and coached a variety of sports for the past 13 years and currently volunteer with youth athletics in Strawberry Point and Elkader. I live in the country near Strawberry Point with my wife and two wonderful children. I look forward to working with families and individuals to reach their real estate goals.
