About this property

This amazing 4 bedrooms + den 1924 Frank Austin House is now for sale with its almost 1/2 acre of land. Enter thru the 34' wide porch by the enterace into the livingroom with its centerpiece Coquina Shell fireplace. A lot of original details are restored in this true architectural 1920s home (red oak wook floors, Built-in oak cabinets, wood beams in the ceiling) etc. This completly fenced in corner lot has a large backyard with multiple sitting areas and a lot of garden & fruit trees. Hot tub & fireplace included. In 1924 The Ashley Gang robs the Bank of Pompano, wild panthers roam the farmlands and a land boom prevails while the Austin house is built and later becomes one of the first 4 homes to qualify & be placed on the City of Pompano Beach Historic Register of Historic Places. The current owner (2nd Ower) is presented the bronze plaque by Lamar Fisher, plaque as can be seen on the front porch. The home was given preliminary approval for the National Registry but never continued. The home remained with the Austin family until 1995 when the husband and wife team, Janet and James Barteld bought the home from the original owners. They spent 1000s of dollars and hours painstakingly restoring many of the finer details of the home. The updates to the home can be seen with the 1963 addition of a Florida room leading to a screened back patio and carport. The kitchen was redone in the 2000s. AC was added to the upstairs and downstairs (2016 last update) as well as a drop-down stairway for access & extra storage in the attic. The wavy original poured glass panel windows were removed and replaced with hurricane impact efficient windows along with French doors in the front entrance. The old knob and tube 60 amp wiring were also updated throughout the entire home. All of the hot and cold water pipes were replaced after 1995. The bathrooms were redone as well from 1960s to 1990s while a few original tiles remain. Special Note: The home was crafted from the Arts and Crafts movement popular at the turn of the 20th century by builder Gus Hardin advocating the pre-industrial ideas of the craftsman ships, simplicity, honest expression of materials and harmony with nature. It is said that the home is made from Dade County Pine and red oak wood. Frank Austin owned and operated several of the local businesses including a farm store that supplied fertilizer, seed, insecticide and livestock feed to farmers during the land boom time that this home was built.
