About this property

This is cheaper than rent!! A small ?saltbox? cape, built into the side of a bank just west of the Congregational Church in Southbury's Historic South Britian. One of 16 houses listed in South Britian Historic Brochure. It was bought in 1791 by the minister of the church, but is believed to have been constructed in the 1750's. Originally it served as a Toll house with a tavern serving wayfayers on the lower level. In the 1870?s it became a ?School for Young Ladies?. It has 3 bedrooms and many original details such as the wide chestnut floors, two fireplaces and significant original detailing. Two full baths have been updated and radiators replaced by baseboards. It has large level yard and is within walking distance of the store and minutes from Exit 14.The South Britain Historic District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987. It represents the essential charm of a New England village. This home is not eligible for FHA or VA due to historic details. Come spend the summer in the country!
