Only one main two-lane highway passes through Placida and it is called Placida Road a.k.a. State Road 775. Driving down on 775 with the Lemon Bay Florida watershed on your right and entering Placida from the north, Placida Road is flanked by towering palm tress, pines, and ancient oaks. These trees teamed with the lower tangles of impenetrable dense foliage provide the intense privacy. From the highway you see only the high peaked dormers, latticed stairwell windows, private viewing decks, and glinting metal roofs.
Turning off Placida Road into the Placida Pointe subdivision will give you an opportunity to slowly roll by some of the spectacular coastal mansions laid in with superb tropical landscaping. To maintain their highly-prized privacy, most other residential areas of Placida FL are gated with owner and guest access only.
Placida has several quaint, narrow old-world Florida lanes upon which you can still find classic 1950?s and 1960?s Florida-style single-story block construction homes. Again, these timeless streets and homes are swamped with ancient tropical foliage reminiscent of southern Louisiana bayou.
At the southern most tip of Placida along Fishery Road the push of stately homes gently gives out to a fishing and art outpost with fresh seafood for sale right off the boats and trucks. Located here is the always busy The Fishery seafood restaurant, the colorful and cluttered Margaret Albritton Gallery, Grande Tours departure dock, several deep sea fishing charters and other rustic art galleries loaded with local handcraft. There is also a public boat ramp, fishing dock, several fishing holes and the eccentric Eldred?s marina.
Where 775 turns inland and acquires the name Gasparilla Road, there is the vast and active Gasparilla Marina for boat storage, marine fuel, supplies and dining. Well hidden is the private and impeccable golf club Coral Creek Club and Coral Creek Airport, a private airstrip. Along Gasparilla Road marking the end of Placida you will note the immense horse and cow farm where the main homestead stands out isolated in a massive field. Behind that home lies the protected sprawling Charlotte Harbor Wildlife Preserve and Estuary.
Placida, this scenic coastal hamlet high point, is also where State Road 775 offers a fork that leads out to the otherworldly exceptional Boca Grande Island beaches via the narrow and scenic Boca Grande Causeway. Private and removed, Boca Grande with a bigger, more happening lively downtown, cool restaurants, island shops and nearly 360 degrees of southwest Florida beaches is the more social sister to Placida.
In the Cape Haze southwest Florida area, Placida offers you boating on sparkling Gulf waters, jetting out to hidden marina restaurants, picnicking on a tiny deserted beach island, tarpon fishing, dolphin, manatee, alligator, sharks, viewing the tropical foliage alive with exotic Florida birds, and ending everyday on spectacular orange and pink sunsets?
Placida Florida is possibly the most private and outstanding community on the Cape Haze FL peninsula.
