Overview

Nestled into a park-like setting on a quiet cul-de-sac of the highly regarded Mountain Brook Subdivision, this unique home can best be described as elegantly functional. Built originally in 1984 by the master carpenters associated with legendary developer Jim Sharp, the second floor was added in 1996, and over the last 10 years, the property has been extensively remodeled--inside and out. The interior features a carefully engineered open-concept floor plan highlighted by architectural details throughout including hardwood floors blending into intricately designed tiled spaces upstairs and down; two stone fireplaces and an 18-foot stone entry wall complimented by native oak trim work; and pensive Saratoga soapstone offset by lively Bordeaux granite, stainless steel, and flame cherry in the chef's kitchen. On the outside, every external wall was rebuilt to add insulation and enhance the structural integrity of the house, which was then sided with fire-resistant cement board and 0.5-inch-thick hand split cedar shakes. The entire roof was rebuilt to install steel valley channels, 50-year architectural shingles, new gutters with leaf protectors, and new soffits. The old wood-burning fireplace chimney was fully rebuilt and sided with fieldstone. The attending pictures speak for themselves, but it is what you don't see that adds long-lasting value: The entire house has been rewired with new outlets and switches installed; over half the outlets have ground-fault circuit interrupters for safety and many of the light switches include a dimmer. The livingroom and all bedrooms have a multiple speed, lighted fan. A 22kw Generac generator was added in 2024. The plumbing throughout the house is new and features two highly efficient manifold plumbing units that save on water use and energy costs. Additional savings are provided by a commercial grade, gas, tankless hot water unit.
